It's already April 2021 and I'm thinking things like, "Maybe I won't be able to go abroad again this year. Even if I could go, considering that airfare would still be expensive and I would be quarantined for two weeks, wouldn't it be better to do something else until the time comes when I can go without problems, rather than forcing myself to go hard now? I think.
With this in mind, I created "Divided World -Divided World- 01," which expresses a gently divided world. Nowadays, the media reports what is going on in other countries, so even if you don't go there, you can get some idea of what is going on in other countries, and there are plenty of ways to keep in touch with family and friends who live abroad. However, the amount of information conveyed is overwhelmingly different compared to going directly to the country or meeting the people there.
Half of the background of the work is covered with a sticker with a texture like aluminum, and the threads that stretch across the screen are reflected dimly. The dimness expresses the feeling of what it would be like to look at the rest of the world from the perspective of today's Japan. The blurriness of the image expresses the feeling of what it would be like to look at the rest of the world from Japan today.
180 x 130 x 20 mm
Mixed media - embroidery thread (silk), paper, aluminum stickers, transparent plastic board, cardboard
Completed on 2021.04.04
This is the first work of the new experiment "Small Art a Week," in which at least one experimental small work is created each week.
